The typical deficiency symptom of magnesium is interveinal chlorosis in older leaves due to the cation’s high mobility in the plant.
Manganese activates several enzymes in plant cells in various photosynthetic reactions. Typically, manganese deficiencies are similar to magnesium, interveinal chlorosis, but occur on young leaves in citrus. Symptoms occur on younger leaves because the cations are less mobile within the plant.
